About Zehan
Zehan, meaning "consciousness" in Tigrigna, is rooted in the belief that awareness, when organized into systems, can lead to meaningful and lasting change.
Our Mission
- To empower the youth in Tigray with practical skills to bring about actionable solutions, enabling them to become key contributors in creating a strong, peaceful, and self-confident society.
- To support the war-affected segments of society—specifically the youth, women, and displaced individuals—by raising awareness and engaging in supportive work activities.
- Our long-term goal is to continuously foster a conscious, dedicated, and united young generation.
- Our organization is youth-led, impartial, independent, and a non-profit association working with care and dedication.
Our Story
How can we move from individual support to structured systems that consistently reach young people who need them most?
This was the question a group of friends came together to answer last summer. We wanted build something that responds to the harsh realities young people in Tigray were facing. And with that Zehan was born. A youth-led center for youth development.
One of our initial ideas was to support internally displaced children through a tutoring initiative. While we were not able to fully implement it, the process taught us important lessons about the complexity of working in such contexts. It made us realize that real impact requires structured planning, adaptability, and a grounded understanding of the challenges communities face.
